I constantly find myself running out of reading time, and as a remedy to this problem I’ve taken to carrying a book with me everywhere. You never know when you’re going to get to your next meeting twenty minutes early, or your bus is running late, or you just need to take a break from reality.
That’s the great thing about short stories. If you have 15-20 minutes, you have time to get away to another place, to be another person, and be back in time to get to the next thing on your to-do list.
If you’re looking for your next great read, check out this Goodreads Giveaway. We’re giving away five paperback copies of our latest anthology, For the Road: Short Stories of America’s Highways. (The book sells on Amazon.com for $14.95.)
This anthology features short stories by ten authors from around the country. From bizarre travelling companions, to ghost stories, to madness described in eloquent prose, For the Road has a little something for everyone.
If you’re expecting tales of good Samaritans and happy travelers, you may want to take another route. For the Road explores the spectacular fear we hold for the unknown, as embodied by the lonesome highway. Seasoned travelers may laugh at the villains and specters within these pages, while homebodies will make sure to lock their doors a little earlier in the evening.
