Publication – Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a co-op member to submit work?

No!  Our submission process is free and open to the public.  All are welcomed to submit a story.

You are required to have a free ColumbusCoop.org account to submit.  This helps us to keep the right contact information matched with the right submissions.

Do I have to attend workshops?

No!  Our workshops are very helpful, and I think you’ll end up with a better shot of having one of the best submitted stories if you do participate in our workshops.  However, when it comes to selection time, we’re simply looking for the best material, you do not need to attend any workshops.

How much will I be paid for my story?

That depends.  We have a formula to split most of the profits from the book sales fairly among the included authors.  Your payment will vary, but most authors will make 10 to 15 cents per book copy sold.  A typical total would be $30 to $100 per included story.

Included authors also receive substantial discounts off of books, and many of our authors make a decent amount of money by reselling the books.

What if my story isn’t a great fit for the theme?

Please submit it anyway.  It might be a better fit than you think, and you’ve got nothing to lose.

How do I submit my work?

Submitting your work is easy.  First, register for a free account (click here), and confirm your email address.  Second, log in to ColumbusCoop.org with your new account.

Once you’re logged in, select “Submit Work for Anthology” from the menu.  Fill out the form, upload your work, and you’re done.

If I submit my work, am I obligated to publish with you?

No.  If your work is selected for the anthology, you’ll be presented with an offer.  At that time you’re free to accept, negotiate or reject the offer.

Are there other ways to submit work?

Yes.  If you’re having trouble with our submission process, please contact us to arrange another submission method.  We’ll be happy to do our best to accommodate you, and find a submission method that works.
